SOJOURNERS

Site: Camp Vermillion
Ages:
Completed grades 10–12
Cost: $410-560*

With so many options available to Senior High students, spending a week as a Soujourer means a week with passionate, fun, and faith-full peers. Conversations are deeper, worships are more meaningful, and friendships last well beyond camp. A tight community is formed as Sojourners explore their faith, mentor younger campers, and experience new adventures at camp.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Part of the camp week for Sojourners includes many traditional camp activities - swimming, all camp games, worship, campfire, Bible study, creative arts, Grovers, and laughter around the meal table.  Our staff also work to develop worships, devotions, games, and conversation geared around the joys and struggles of being a high school student today. Counselors strive to foster a safe place for campers to share with their peers not only questions about faith, but also their questions about life.

Weather permitting, Sojourners will experience an overnight canoe trip.  They learn to pack lightly and to work together to prepare for this trip.  Meals are fashioned after those one might eat on a Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness trip, and the group will leave site for the overnight experience on Lake Vermilion.  This trip provides independence and challenge while bringing the group together.  They canoe, set up their campsite, cook their meals, and spend time together in conversation and worship.  Breakfast, worship, Bible study, and lunch are enjoyed the next day before canoeing back to the pick-up spot to return to camp.  A chance to sauna and clean up happens before the cabin groups jump back into a more traditional camp schedule.

The Sojourner program only happens at Camp Vermilion.  Housing is with 8-9 campers in each counselor group.  Sojourner campers will generally stay in our Tree Top or Hillside Villages.

Some of our Sojourners do drive themselves to camp for the week.  When this happens, we will collect car keys and hold on to them for the week, returning them before the closing program on Friday.  Camper's cars are parked at the far end of our main parking area where year-round staff are able to keep an eye on them during the week.
