The first overnight experience at camp is a big step for some, and this 2 day-1 night program is a great option. This short program helps ease a younger camper into the full camp experience, combining the fun of the Discoverers program with an overnight stay. The perfect next steps towards a weeklong experience.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Discoverer Overnight program starts out just like our day-long Discoverer experience. In fact, this program often joins together with the Discovers for the first 7 hours of their stay – enjoying a day of swimming, learning, games, crafts, and even a hot dog roast lunch. But instead of participating in a closing program at 4 PM, the Overnight campers keep the fun going!

The evening includes supper prepared by our kitchen staff, a large group game (possibly with other campers onsite), snack and campfire worship. Campers will then head to their assigned cabin, usually with 5-6 other campers and one of our trained counselors, for an evening devotion time before the designated Lights Out time.

The morning brings the optional Polar Bear swim (a quick in and out at the lake) before breakfast and helping with their assigned Kaper (simple chore such as helping wipe tables, weeding the garden, or checking the camp for litter). Depending on participation numbers, the Discoverer Overnight campers might be joined by another group of day Discoverers to continue the fun of games, more swimming, Bible stories and conversation, crafts, snacks, and more. The second day is very similar to the first day, though lunch is enjoyed in the dining hall and not around the campfire.

The Overnight program ends at 4 PM the second day with a short closing program. Family and friends are invited to arrive slightly before 4 PM to hear all about the campers’ experience.

When we have cabins available, we do designate a few for the Discover program.  Not only does this give campers a space for their personal belongings and changing into and out of swimming suits, it also gives them a chance to see where they might stay were they to participate in an overnight program.  When a cabin is not available, we designate space in another building for Discoverer belongings and use the Retreat Center bathrooms at Camp Hiawatha and the main shower-house at Camp Vermilion for changing.

We look forward to having your child at camp! If you have questions about this program that are not answered here, please contact our main office.
