CANOE CAMP

Site: Camp Vermillion
Ages:
Completed grades 5–6, 7–9, 10–12
Cost: $500-680*

Canoe camp is the place to both learn the basics and build on your skills. Campers spend time each day on canoeing, camping, and other outdoor education skills, mixed in among many favorite camp activities. Each age level program includes some type of overnight canoeing and camping experience. Canoe Camp is split into three different age and progression levels. Our Trekker Canoe Campers (5-6 gr) will enjoy day trips on Lake Vermilion, as well as an on-site overnight experience. The Explorer Canoe Campers (7-9 gr) will spend an overnight off-site, canoeing and camping near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Finally, our Sojourner Campers (10-12 gr) will head into the BWCAW for a 3-night canoe trip. We invite you to come each year and watch your skills improve as you work your way to a full-week BWCA experience with Camp Vermilion’s Voyageurs Canoe Country program.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Here it is - a program designed to teach what you need to know to fully enjoy your canoeing and camping experience in Minnesota's northwoods!

Each day of Canoe Camp includes learning canoeing skills -the various paddle strokes, sterning, portaging, general care for a canoe.  Campers also learn basic map reading and navigation skills.  Overnight camping experiences during the week will teach campers how to set up a campsite and prepare your meals "on the trail", both over the fire and using a simple trail stove.

In addition to these intentional learning times, the week includes many favorite camp activities, such as games, campfire, swimming, and more!

Whether you are coming for one day or an entire week, our programs provide elementary campers with a Christ-centered and fun camp experience. Campers will have a chance to meet new friends and grow in their faith as they enjoy time in God’s Great Northwoods!

Our Elementary programs start and end each day in prayer and worship. In between there is time for playing in the lake, games, creative arts, exploring nature and sharing with your cabin group. Not sure about camp? Try one of our shorter programs. Can’t wait to experience all that camp has to offer? Join us for an entire week. Whatever your interest, we have something for you!
