Program Director for Summer Camps
Job Description:The Program Director for Summer Camp is responsible for leading VLM's summer camp programs at both Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermillion. They will develop and implement summer camp curricula, hire and manage staff, and ensure the program aligns with VLM’s mission and vision. They will also remain the local leader for the Camp Hiawatha community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Youth Ministry, Education, Recreation, Theology) or experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 2 years experience in camp ministry, youth leadership, or related program development roles.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement Christ-centered programs that nurture spiritual growth and leadership in youth.
Proven experience hiring, training, and supervising seasonal staff and volunteers.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to connect with youth, families, staff, and church communities.
Ability to lead in both structured and flexible environments, including residential and day camp settings.
Skilled in managing safety and risk management policies in camp environments.
Competence in administrative tasks including scheduling, budgeting, and staff evaluations.
Willingness to live on-site at Camp Hiawatha during the summer and serve as a visible community leader.
Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Compensation: This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position with a salary range of $40,000-$50,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
Retreat Coordinator
Job Description: The Retreat Coordinator is responsible for managing VLM’s year-round retreat ministry. This includes registration, marketing, and ensuring hospitality for retreat guests at both Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermillion. The Retreat Coordinator works closely with the Associate Director for Operations and is tasked with ensuring food service and hosting are well-coordinated.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
Excellent communication and customer service skills; able to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of guest groups.
Demonstrated experience in hospitality, event planning, retreat programming, or food service coordination.
Ability to lead and supervise seasonal or part-time staff (host interns, kitchen, and housekeeping staff).
Comfort with or willingness to learn basic marketing skills, including the use of social media and digital communication tools.
Alignment with and support for the mission and values of Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and be present at both Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermilion.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between camp locations.
Compensation: This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position with a salary range of $38,000–$48,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
Camp Vermilion Food Service Manager
Job Description:The Food Service Manager at Camp Vermillion is responsible for the overall management of the camp’s food service operations. This includes menu planning, food preparation, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The Food Service Manager also plays a role in welcoming guests and assisting with property maintenance as needed.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in hospitality and food service coordination.
Ability to lead and supervise seasonal or part-time staff (host interns, kitchen, and housekeeping staff)
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and potentially to be available at Camp Hiawatha for programed events
Experience creating nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective menus that can accommodate various dietary needs.
Experience training, supervising, and supporting kitchen staff.
The ability to work well with a diverse group of people, including campers, staff, and volunteers, while maintaining a positive and friendly demeanor.
A current food safety certification, such as a State Food Safety certificate or being willing to obtain one.
Proven experience in quantity cooking and institutional food service, demonstrating the ability to manage large-scale food production.
Compensation: This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position with a salary range of $40,000–$50,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
Camp Hosts— Camp Vermilion & Camp Hiawatha (as-needed)
Job Description: Prepare and maintain housing and program space for rental groups, and ensure a welcoming stay at our sites. Act as main on-site contact during retreat groups stay at Camp Hiawatha or Camp Vermilion. Create an atmosphere of of welcome for all. Successful candidates will be self-starters with a spirit for hospitality and attention to detail.
Compensation: Starts at $80 per day, increases with additional hosting responsibilities.
