  • Minimum Age: 18 years old (by June 23)

    Position Requirements: High school graduate; one year of college or work experience preferred.

    Job Description: Provide leadership and support for 6-10 campers in a cabin group, grades K-12. Facilitate Rubbaboo (Bible Study) and lead other games and activities in small and large group settings. Walk alongside campers in learning canoeing, kayaking, camping, and outdoor skills. Responsible for some planning with cabin groups according to the daily program. Good candidates will be creative, flexible, have good emotional maturity and communication skills, and a love for the outdoors.

    Camp Vermilion hosts a variety of traditional day and overnight camp programming for youth ages 5-18, as well as specialized canoe camps, focusing more on foundational camping and canoeing skills, and high school programming focused on leadership development. Camp Hiawatha hosts some traditional day and overnight camp programming for youth ages 5-15 as well as specialty programs including hockey camp, family camp, connection camp for kids with Type-1 diabetes and their parent, and camp for adults with developmental disabilities.

    Counselors will be assigned a primary site for the summer, but will serve at least one week at the other site throughout the summer based on program needs.

    Compensation: Starting at $390/week, additional compensation DOE

    Position Requirements: Prior experience working with children preferred

    Job Description: The assistant camp counselor position will work with on site and off site day program campers, family campers, and may stay in a cabin overnight with campers and a camp counselor.

    Position Requirements: Current lifeguard/Wilderness Water Safety, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR certifications are required. Wilderness ethics and experience are appreciated. VLM will provide training and certification.

    Job Description: Responsible for the overall navigation, safety, and well-being of up to 8 individuals, including at least 1 adult advisor, on a wilderness canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Canoe guides will be trained in team building, small group development and will be equipped with tools in order to facilitate Rubbaboo (Bible study) while in the BWCAW. When not guiding, this position will in a support position at Camp Vermilion.

    Compensation: $420/week first-time in position; $435/week experienced staff

    Position Requirements: High School graduate with experience in service or hospitality industry preferred

    Job Description: Responsible for assisting with food preparation, serving, and consequent clean-up, while maintaining appropriate food safety procedures. Maintaining the cleanliness of the dining hall is also required. Residential kitchen assistants are expected to assist with programming and life of camp as needed and available. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary, including some early mornings. This person may serve as a counselor as needed.

    One kitchen assistant position is available over the weekend at both Camp Vermilion and Camp Hiawatha. Work days for weekend position negotiable between Thursday-Monday, must include Friday afternoon-Sunday afternoon meals.

    Position Requirements: high school graduate with one year of college or work experience preferred; organized with good attention to detail, able to work in a fast-paced environment

    Job Description: Work with site staff and program director to stock, maintain and run the canteen (camp store), including ordering food/beverages, maintaining accurate records for staff and camper accounts, and returning camper canteen balances at the end of each week as directed. Assist with Sunday registration. This person is also responsible for all in camp pack out meals (trail lunch, overnight campout meals, etc). Will work closely with the head cook, kitchen assistants and Canoe Country APD to maintain and coordinate kitchen areas. Expected to play an active role in the life and programming of camp as needed and available. This person may serve as a counselor as needed.

    Position Requirements: High School graduate preferred. Ability to follow direction and work independently. Drivers license with good driving record preferred. “Fix It” skills necessary

    Job Description: Responsible for assisting the Property Manager in all areas of grounds and facilities upkeep, including cleaning, basic building maintenance, garbage and recycling pick-up, mowing/weed whipping, and other duties as assigned. Some “fix-it” skills are preferred as well as a willingness to learn. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary. Residential staff are expected to take part in programming and camp life as needed and available. This may include lifeguarding for those certified. This person may serve as a counselor as needed.

    Compensation: $375/week

    Position Requirements: Minimum of Advanced First Aid and CPR training; ideally CNA or EMT certified.

    Job Description: This person will care for the health and safety of the camp community within their scope of practice. Will administer medication and first aid, and treat minor illnesses and injuries of campers and staff in accordance with VLM healthcare policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining the healthcare center at designated site, attending to cleaning, organization and inventory. Maintain all first aid kits located at the site, check out first aid bum bags to counselors and support staff each week, as well as overnight first aid kits. Assist Canoe Country APD with VCC first aid kits as needed. Orient any guest nurses to healthcare center and camp as needed. Communicate with local healthcare professionals and parents as directed by Program Director. Expected to participate in life of camp, including activities and worship as needed and available. Minimum of advanced First Aid and CPR training preferred. 21 years of age preferred or younger with at least 1 year of relevant work experience. This position may serve as a counselor as needed.

    Position Requirements: Current certification in CPR/First Aid and lifeguarding, or ability to become certified. Lake guarding and camp experience preferred.

    Job Description: Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and fun waterfront area. Current certification in CPR/First Aid and lifeguarding or ability to become certified required. Position includes supervision of lifeguards when on the waterfront, daily maintenance of the beach front and orientation for guests and campers using the waterfront. Expected to support all waterfront activities: canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sauna use, etc. Participate in the life of camp and assist with other camp activities as directed and available. 21 years of age with lake guarding experience preferred. This position may serve as a counselor as needed.

    Position Requirements: Organized, dependable, and creative. At least one year college or career experience and prior camp experience preferred

    Job Description: This person will plan, supervise, set up for and clean up from creative arts activities, including but not limited to tie-dye/indigo dye, painting, nature crafts, and more. Responsible for working with site leadership to set up Grover (camp activities), Rubbaboo (bible study) supplies, coordinate/lead team building, and all-camp games. Responsible for inventory and supplies maintenance in the designated craft areas, ball sheds, and team building areas. This person is integral in camp life and programming. This person may serve as a counselor as needed.

    Position Requirements: At least 1 year of prior camp experience, valid driver’s license, and Lifeguard Certified or willingness to obtain certification preferred.

    Job Description: Work closely with Assistant Program Director and site team to plan and implement daily/weekly programming including games, worships, activities, teambuilding, bible studies, waterfront and overnight experiences. Work with APD to creatively develop daily and weekly schedule for staff and campers. Lead daily staff meetings with counselors. Participate in daily staff meeting with APD and support staff. Provide announcements and schedule changes to counseling and support staff in timely manner. Serve as a representative of VLM to pastors, youth directors, volunteers, and parents. Provides support, encouragement, and leadership to summer staff. Assists with leading staff training. This person may step into APD role or serve as a counselor as needed.

  • Minimum Age: 20 with a minimum of 2 years prior camp experience; 21+ preferred

    Position Requirements: Minimum of 2 years prior camp experience. Prior camp leadership experience, valid drivers license, and lifeguard certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.

    Job Description: Responsible for supervising all on-site programs as directed by the Program Director. Must be able to multi-task with good time management. Position includes assisting with staff training, working closely with and overseeing the Program Coordinator to ensure programs are running smoothly, and direct supervision of leadership and support staff. APD will lead all daily support staff meetings, and assist PC in support of counseling staff. APD will carry out administrative duties including: working with PC to plan daily and weekly schedules; running Sunday registration and Friday closing program/checkout, coordinating with kitchen staff and healthcare coordinator to ensure program needs are met; meeting weekly with Program Director and Camp Director; taking or delegating picture-taking of daily camp activities and maintaining parent picture site; managing all parent communication and mail to the site; occasionally answering phones and relaying messages appropriately; reviewing and evaluating programs and staff; overseeing risk management at the site; and serving as a representative of VLM to pastors, youth directors, education directors, volunteers and parents. Successful applicants will be highly motivated, organized, team-focused, detail-oriented, able to work with all ages, and have a desire to support campers, staff, and parents alike.

    Camp Vermilion APD must be comfortable with canoeing/camping skills, or able and willing to learn.

    Camp Hiawatha APD must be comfortable working with a wide variety of specialty programs including: Family Camp, Hockey Camp, Rendezvous-adults with developmental disabilities, and Type-1 Diabetes Connection Camp.

    Position Requirements: Current Lifeguard, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR required. VLM will provide training and certification. Valid driver’s license. Must be willing/able to drive a 15 passenger van with a canoe trailer (training will be provided). Prior camp experience and ability to fulfill the responsibilities of a Canoe Guide preferred.

    Job Description: Responsible for supervising all aspects of the Canoe Country Program. Assist with staff training, directly oversee the Canoe Guides, lead orientation for groups, review and evaluate trips, organize and maintain all Canoe Country gear, food, and inventory. Support canoeing and camping programming at Camp Vermilion as directed by supervisors and as schedule permits.

    Position Requirements: Prior outdoor education or camp experience preferred; creative, organized, and self-starter

    Job Description: Responsible for organization, cleanliness, and inventory of Nature Center and in-camp Trail Shack gear area. This person will plan and lead daily nature-related activities, including but not limited to: nature hikes, orienteering, berry picking, shelter building, and more, and will teach principles of leave no trace and stewardship practices to campers, staff, and volunteers. Also responsible for overseeing in-camp overnight experiences in conjunction with the site team. Maintain all gear and equipment for camping experiences. Nature and Camping Coordinator will help orient campers to gear, and will assist in teaching camping skills including fire building, washing dishes, and pitching tents alongside counselors. This position is based at Camp Vermilion. Will assist with leading staff training. Expected to participate in the life and programming of camp as needed and available. This person may also participate in site-based day canoe trips with campers, or serve as a counselor as needed.

  • Position: High School Coordinator

    Position Requirements: At least 1 year of prior camp experience, 2 years preferred, and valid driver’s license; prior leadership experience preferred. 21+ (by June 23) preferred

    Job Description: This person is the primary leader for high school programming at VLM. This person will work with campers grades 10-12 in our Sojourner and Canoe Camp Programs. This person is also responsible for supervision and coordination of the Leaders in Training (LIT) program, assisting in the LIT program development, scheduling, and mentoring of LIT campers. The High School Coordinator will work closely with Assistant Program Director and Program Coordinator to manage camper and staff experiences while onsite. Serve as a representative of VLM to pastors, youth directors, volunteers, and parents. Provides support, encouragement, and leadership to summer staff. Assists with leading staff training.
