VLM Mission Projects

CHILDREN HELPING CHILDREN

This 2008 VLM Mission Project will be.... divided between - providing Spanish Bibles for our NEMN Synod's companion congergations in Hondoras, assisting Wilderness Canoe Base, our sister ELCA canoe camp that lost numerous buildings in last spring's BWCA wildfires, and tree planting at Camp Vermilion.

The 2007 VLM Mission Project was.... the ELCA World Hunger Program which improves the lives of people in need in the United States and around the world by: providing immediate relief for people affected by chronic hunger and poverty; assisting whole communities: advocating for justince by changing laws and systems; & educating members of the ELCA in awareness.

All money raised by the World Hunger Appeal comes through specially designated offerings and donations from ELCA members, congregations, and friends. ELCA World Hunger receives no benevolence (general budget money from general ELCA member offerings). VLM Campers donated $5295.55!!

2006 VLM Campers gave over $4,700 in Mission Money to Camp Noah, a special program Lutheran Disaster Response has developed for the children affected by the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes. A week-long day camp for child survivors of domestic disasters, Camp Noah helps children process their feelings and fears and gives them an emotional break from recover through play and recreation.  Bible stories help children know that God's loving care surrounds them throughout the disaster and recovery process.  The curriculum follows Noah and the flood story and helps the children relate their disaster with Noah's disaster.

2005 VLM campers gave over $5900 in Mission Money to help in the Tsunami relief through a Lutheran Church in India.

2004 VLM campers gave $6432 in Mission Money to “Amextra, a program in Mexico that assists the poor by teaching new job skills, providing day care for working mothers, and helping to improve agricultural methods.  Three of 2004 VLM’s Counselors worked with Amextra the winter of 2004 as a part of their mission project with their schools.  Once again, this is a record amount in donations!!!

2003 VLM campers helped children in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus by donating over $5000 to Bethlehem’s Dar al-Kalimar Academy which is a school that prepares young people to face the challenges of the 21st century.

2002 campers gave over $6000 to the ELCA “Stand With Africa” campaign which supports special projects in Africa.
