Dear Summer Staff Applicant,

Thank you very much for your interest in serving on staff with Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry this summer!

We are currently assembling a team to provide exceptional summer Christian camping experiences for youth and families. VLM has a strong history of providing excellent programs. The quality of our staff is the primary reason of our success. I am glad you want to consider this opportunity and I look forward to visiting with you.

There are four parts to the application process:

First,  check out the positions available then fill out the application form and send it to our office. Send the reference forms to the two people you asked to serve as references for you.  (These form can be viewed/printed by clicking on their respective names.)
Secondly,  you and I get together for an interview, either in person or on the phone.
Then I will check your references and will contact past employers as required by Minnesota law for those counseling children.
Finally, I will contact you regarding your employment with us. Some contracts can be sent immediately. Some will take longer to decide, but I will do my best to keep you informed.

We also ask our staff to come to staff training with CPR certification and Standard First Aid certification.  You can pick this up on your own or attend a session (at your expense) right before staff training at our site.  We also offer a life guard training course right before staff training.

A few words about the Positions available. Most of the staff are counselors and canoe guides. A few specialized positions are those who support the counselors - leadership staff, kitchen and maintenance staff.  The leadership staff for 2008 have already been selected. The in-camp counselors divide their summer between the two camps and going out on Day Camps.  Some counselors also serve as Day Camp Leaders when out on Day Camp.

Our 2008 Bible study theme will be "Saved by Grace." We will be looking at Biblical tests that show us how God Surprises us by graciously giving us Jesus, forgiving our sins, and calling us into this new kingdom. Our goal is to use time in worship, study, song, and conversation to enrich the faith journey of our campers. We want our campers to hear God talking to them!

I will be recruiting at these colleges this February:
Feb 4 - Bemidji State University, Bemidji, Minnesota
Feb 7 - Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota
                                                       Feb 13 - St. Olaf
College, Northfield, Minnesota
Feb 14 - Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota
                                                   Feb 20 - Luther
College, Decorah, Iowa
Feb 21 - Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota
Feb 21 - Augsburg College, Minneapolis,  Minnesota

Again, I am grateful for your interest. I look forward to receiving your application soon. I will do my best to keep you informed of our progress in the process.

In Christ,
Paul Leslie
