Persisting God

"I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. You shall know that I am the LORD your God, who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians." - Exodus 6:7

In the passage above, we hear of a covenant the LORD establishes with the people, Israel. Covenants, like agreements, are completely dependent on trust. Would you make a covenant with someone you didn't trust? No! You want to believe that the other person will keep their word and fulfill their end of the covenant.

The LORD made a lot of covenants with Israel as a sign that God wants to be in relationship with his people...well, and Israel kept breaking them. The LORD does not want to be a far-off deity, but for the LORD's people to know that "I AM I AM." Likewise, we see Jesus establishing a new covenant "in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sins." Sound familiar? God continually wants to be with us and share the kingdom life with us. We can respond in a lot of different ways - thankfulness, praise, loving others, trusting God. Our whole life can be lived in response to the great grace of God who continues to come to us!

Persistent Lord, I praise you and thank you for persisting in your love toward me and toward all the people I know and have never met. Amen.

Faithful travels everyone,
