Posé

Posé: A pause or rest stop along the Voyageurs' portage trail. Usually about ½ mile apart. We invite you to take a pause in your day to reflect and pray with us.

1st John 4: 11-13

Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.  By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

This past week I returned from a spiritually renewing and inspiring week in the BWCAW with VLM's Canoe Country. The trip was the beginning of an experimental partnership between the church I serve as pastor (Littlefork Lutheran in Littlefork, MN) and Jacob's Well, a church in South Minneapolis. We ended up taking two groups of eight including guides and both groups had a week filled with physical challenges and deep spiritual conversations.

As a former Canoe Guide, I have been on literally dozens of canoe trips and it wasn't until the ride home that I realized how truly different this trip was from all the others. The realization came when I asked my middle schoolers; "what was your favorite part of the trip?" To my great surprise their answers were not the pictographs, food, the beauty of the scenery, our time spent at "Top of the World," the family of otters one group spotted, or the chipmunks they befriend... instead each and every youth said; "the people!" All the beauty we had paddled and portaged through paled in comparison to the relationships God was building between us during the week. I could not have been more proud of my youth in that moment because they got it.

Whether we talk about being claimed as God's daughters and sons in baptism or about how we are called together in faith to be the Body of Christ, the Church in the world, we are talking about ways that God has called us in love together. After this last week, I have no doubt that God is already knitting Jacob's Well and Littlefork Lutheran together and I cannot wait to see what our future holds. What relationships is God building in your life and what communities of faith is God weaving you into?
