Camp Hiawatha & Camp Vermilion

2008 Staff Positions

Counselors with Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry spend the summer rotating between the two camps and serving on Day Camps . Leadership and support positions remain at one camp for the enire summer.

Counseling and Guiding

Campsite/Day Camp Counselor (31 positions)

Provide leadership and support for up to 10 campers in a cabin group, grades 2-12, and for campers in a day camp setting, grades K-6. Facilitate Bible study from material provided and lead other games and activities in small and large group settings. Responsible also for some planning with cabin groups according to the daily program. Counselors will gain experience at Camp Hiawatha, at Camp Vermilion, and in Day Camp. $170 per week for first year counselors. $5 increase for each year of VLM experience. $15 a week extra if a certified lifeguard.

Canoe Guide/Counselor (8-10 positions)

Responsible for the overall navigation, safety, and well-being of up to 7 high school age and older campers, as well as, at least 1 adult advisor on a wilderness canoe trip. Facilitate daily Bible study from the central study theme, as well as, expedite group experiences. It is necessary to have current lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certifications, as well as, wilderness ethics and experience. Guides will serve as camp counselors at Camp Vermilion or work as support staff on weeks not guiding. $195 for first year guide. $5 increase for each year of VLM experience. Guides pay $150 if they take VLM lifeguard class the week before Memorial Day Weekend.

Day Camp Leader/Campsite Counselor ( 7 positions)

A counselor who provides leadership for counselors and campers in the Day Camp program. Develop a rapport with the church staff and pastor(s) to ensure good communication. Work with the staff as a “player/coach.” Responsible for overall Day Camp program standards. Appropriate Campsite Counselor salary when counseling and an extra $15 per week when serving as Day Camp Leader.

 

Support Staff

Food Service Coordinator (1 position at each site)

Responsible for overseeing all areas of food service operation: including food ordering, menu planning, meal preparation and clean-up, supervising kitchen staff, and maintaining all facilities and equipment in accordance with all appropriate health codes. Will work with the Office Manager to order food. $215 per week.

 Kitchen Assistant/Cleaner (5 positions)

Responsible for assisting the Food Service Coordinator with food preparation, serving, and consequent clean-up. As a combined position, this person is also responsible for cleaning some additional facilities as assigned. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary. $175 per week.

Maintenance Assistant (1 position at each site)

Responsible for assisting the Site Director in all areas of grounds and facilities upkeep. Should have some fix-it skills and willingness to learn more. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary. $180 per week if 18+, $175 per week if in High School.
