2009 Staff Positions

Counselors with Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry spend the summer rotating between the two camps and serving on Day Camps . Leadership and support positions remain at one camp for the enire summer.

Counseling and Guiding

Campsite/Day Camp Counselor (26 positions)

Provide leadership and support for up to 10 campers in a cabin group, grades 2-12, and for campers in a day camp setting, grades K-6. Facilitate Bible study from material provided and lead other games and activities in small and large group settings. Responsible also for some planning with cabin groups according to the daily program. Counselors will gain experience at Camp Hiawatha, at Camp Vermilion, and in Day Camp. $175 per week for first year counselors. See available bonus opportunities below.

Canoe Guide/Counselor (About 5 positions)

Responsible for the overall navigation, safety, and well-being of up to 7 high school age and older campers, as well as, at least 1 adult advisor on a wilderness canoe trip. Facilitate daily Bible study from the central study theme, as well as, expedite group experiences. It is necessary to have current lifeguard, wilderness first aid, and CPR certifications, as well as, wilderness ethics and experience. Guides will serve as camp counselors at Camp Vermilion, its’ Houseboat program, or work as support staff on weeks not guiding. Guides will also be expected to drive the camp’s 15 passenger van with a trailer (training will be provided). $185 for first year canoe guide. $10 increase for each year of camp staff experience. Guides get $150 bonus for arriving with lifeguard certificate or pay $150 if they take the VLM lifeguard class the week before Memorial Day Weekend. See available bonus opportunities below.

Day Camp Leader/Campsite Counselor ( 7 positions)

A counselor who p rovides leadership for counselors and campers in the Day Camp program. Develop a rapport with the church staff and pastor(s) to ensure good communication. Work with the staff as a “player/coach.” Responsible for overall Day Camp program standards. Appropriate Campsite Counselor salary when counseling and an extra $15 per week when serving as Day Camp Leader.

Support Staff

Kitchen Assistant/Cleaner (5 positions)

Responsible for assisting the Food Service Coordinator with food preparation, serving, and consequent clean-up. As a combined position, this person is also responsible for cleaning some additional facilities as assigned. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary. $1 75 per week. Maintenance Assistant (1 position at each site)

Responsible for assisting the Site Director in all areas of grounds and facilities upkeep. Should have some fix-it skills and willingness to learn more. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary. $1 75 per week if 18+. $10 increase for each year of camp staff experience. $165 per week if in High School. See available bonus opportunities below.
